Wedding Coordinator vs. Wedding Consultant

As you start planning for your big day there are a lot of things to consider; venues, food, cakes, dresses, band or DJ, photographer, church, wedding party, favors, etc,  Another major question is do I need a Wedding Coordinator or a Wedding Consultant?

Most people think that we are all the same, consultants and coordinators, and many are.  We are 100% here for the Bride, Groom and their families to make the day as seamless as possible.  When we are wearing our consultant hats we are there every step of the way.  We actually help plan the initial meetings with the vendors, we recommend locations, sites, vendors, everything.  We are there for all etiquette questions from invites to menu cards, moral support when the families all have opinions for the wedding, and we are there to hold your hand every step of the way.  We are your best friend.

As a coordinator we step in at the end.  You have done all of the planning, the deciding, the leg work to make your day special.  After a couple of meetings with us as your coordinator, you hand over your notes and we take over implementing what you have done.  We are like the substitutes coming into class and giving the lecture that was already written for us.  We still make the day easier on the families so they can enjoy and be a guest at their own event.

Today, many brides (and their families) look into a Day of Coordinator just to make sure everything goes as planned and let them enjoy the day!  It is actually the best part of my job.  Meeting all of the families, new vendors and watching the day unfold.

Here are some of our past brides.

“Kim and her assistant, Layne, were extremely helpful through the wedding planning process. Kim had expertise knowledge on all aspects of the wedding. She was easily available through text message or e-mail to answer all last minute questions. Kim also advised the wedding planning process keeping in mind appropriate wedding etiquette. She offered ideas and had examples of programs, invitations, table numbers, and so much more. In addition, I was able to rent white candelabras which were hard to find elsewhere and an elegant easel to display my seating chart.

While everything I listed above was extremely important to planning my special day, she was even more valuable on the day of, for event coordinating. She prepared timelines and kept my photographer on a timeline. She was the “go-to” person to ensure everything went smoothly. She made necessary adjustments when needed and most of all she kept everyone calm and collected! They set up the reception venue so that my family could spend the morning with me while I was getting ready. Layne assembled my candy table and it looked fabulous! Kim and Layne were a very important part of my day!”  – AM + R

“When planning a wedding you hear so much advice from so many different people. Some of it is helpful and some of it just gives you more anxiety. Here is my advice to all future brides or anyone planning a party. Having a “day of” planner was never up for discussion after we decided to get married in Kentucky. A friend of mine had used Kim Gaunce as her planner for her wedding and she was very pleased so when I was home at Christmas we met and I knew asking her to help would be a great decision. Living in Florida and planning a wedding in KY definitely made things more challenging at times but having Kim on my team made things so much less stressful. She was always there when I needed an unbiased opinion whether I was emailing her an idea or texting a picture she was so quick to respond.

I was afraid the days leading up to the wedding were going to be insane but working with Kim, they were actually enjoyable. I’ve never met a more organized person in my life and someone who liked schedules as much as me. The day of our wedding I was cool, calm and collected and I have Kim to thank for that. I didn’t stress once over anything. If there was a problem, I never knew about it which was great because I trusted her with everything. The day after the wedding my mom and I were discussing how wonderful everything was and she said to me, “Kim was the best money spent for your wedding.” I couldn’t agree more. You can have the most lavish over the top wedding but if you don’t have a great person behind the scenes you’re bound to have issues. I would recommend Kim with Special Events to everyone. I can’t sing enough praises:) Love you Kim! ”  – K + G
